Event Details
Rob St. John is an artist and writer based in Lancaster. His practice is focused on the blurrings of nature and culture in contemporary landscapes. He works primarily across sound, moving image, installation and film photography.
Rob will be presenting an installation and performance of Örö, which was produced through long-term fieldwork and experimentation on Örö, a small formerly militarised island in the Finnish Archipelago. Rob will be accompanied by a collaborative reading from Luke Turner, followed by a DJ set.
Luke Turner will be performing readings inspired by Rob St John’s research from Örö and the time they spent on the island together in the spring of 2017, which in turn shaped his recent publication Men At War. Luke’s alternative look at WWII explores sexuality and the body against the machines and structures of war, bringing together men and women both heterosexual and LGBT+ and from all walks of life, to examine how they simply did what they could just to survive and return home to a complicated peace.
